I am commanded by the Air Council to refer to demi-official correspondence on the subject of the acquisition of additional land for Royal Air Force purposes at Kai Tak, terminating with Mr.Bevir's letter of the 8th February last, 13869/33, and to acquaint you, for the information of the Secretary of State for the Colonies, that Treasury approval for the purchase of the two areas in question has now been obtained.
The Officer Commanding, Royal Air Force, Far East, was accordingly instructed to make the necessary arrangements with the Hong Kong Government for the acquisition of the sites, and has replied as in the telegram, a copy of which is attached.
As the Council are anxious to obtain immediate possession of the site for the officers' mess in order that building may commence, they would be grateful if Sir Philip Cunliffe Lister would convey to the Hong Kong Government by telegram his formal approval of the arrange- ments referred to by the Officer Commanding, Royal Air Force, Far East, leaving for subsequent settlement the actual sums to be paid for the two sites.

Colonial Office,
